Alan served honorably in the U.S. Army for eight years, holding multiple leadership posts and serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was a member of the initial invasion force in Iraq and subsequently served two year-long tours of duty in Baghdad. He is the recipient of multiple awards for service, including eight Army Commendation Medals and the Valorous Unit Award. Alan was honored as the United States Army Europe "Soldier of the Year" in 2002 and went on to compete in the first US Army Soldier of the Year Competition.
